Homemade Scalp Moisturizer
If your scalp is itchy and dry or if you're noticing telltale white flakes on your shoulders, make a homemade scalp moisturizer out of skin-healthy oils. Spend two to three minutes every week massaging the moisturizer into your scalp. The healthy oils lubricate the scalp and the massage improves circulation and promotes healthy hair growth by strengthening the roots of the hair, says CareFair.com.
Step 1
Place 2 tablespoons olive oil or sweet almond oil in a small bowl or cup. Stir in 1 tablespoon castor oil and 1 tablespoon coconut oil.
Step 2
Add 3 drops lavender essential oil, 3 drops tea tree essential oil and 3 drops rosemary or chamomile essential oil.
Step 3
Place the mixture in the microwave for 5 seconds or until the mixture is comfortably warm but not hot.
Step 4
Part your hair, then massage the oils into your scalp using the fleshy part of your thumb and fingertips. Massage in small circles, beginning at your forehead, then working your way to the sides and back of your head.
Step 5
Allow the oil to remain on your scalp for at least 30 to 60 seconds, advises CareFair.com. Rinse the moisturizer from your scalp, then wash your hair with a moisturizing shampoo.
