How to Get Rid of Dark Underarms & Knees

While the skin of the face, feet and hands often receives much attention, areas such as the underarms and knees often fall victim to neglect. Dry skin patches in the areas of the underarms and knees can make them appear darker than the rest of your skin. These dry patches are often layers upon layers of dead skin cells. Exfoliating and using a natural product that you may already have in your kitchen can help. Always use caution when trying alternative remedies.

    Step 1

Cut a lemon into thin slices with a kitchen paring knife just before your daily shower. Place the lemon slices on a small plate and set them aside until after your shower.

    Step 2

Wet a pumice stone, loofah or nylon shower puff with warm water and rub it back and forth over the dry skin. This will help remove the dry skin patches under your arms and on your knees.

    Step 3

Step out of the shower and pat your skin dry with an absorbent towel. Pick up one of the lemon slices and rub it over the skin of your underarms, allowing the juice to ooze onto your skin. Discard the lemon slice after releasing its juice and pick up another. Repeat the process under your other arm and on each knee.

    Step 4

Allow the lemon juice to remain on the skin of your underarms and knees for approximately 30 minutes. Rinse away the lemon juice with a warm water rinse afterward.

    Step 5

Repeat the lightening process after each daily shower until you get the desired result. Apply a skin moisturizer after rinsing away the lemon juice to prevent dryness.

    Things You'll Need

    • Lemon

    • Paring knife

    • Small plate

    • Pumice stone, loofah or nylon shower puff

    • Body moisturizer

    Tip

Lemon juice is a natural skin-lightener. Keep in mind that it may take several weeks for marked results.

Wrap any unused lemon slices in plastic wrap and store them in the refrigerator in between uses.

    Warning

Do not forget to moisturize after each lightening treatment. Moisturizing will prevent irritation that may occur after exfoliating or lightening.
