How to Get Rid of Back Acne With Vinegar

Acne occurs when excess oil and dead skin cells clog pores. According to Acne.org, acne that develops on the back is sometimes more severe than facial acne because the pores on the back are larger, the skin is thicker, and the back is in near-constant contact with clothing and bed linens. Vinegar is a natural antiseptic that may help get rid of back acne by killing P. acnes, a bacterium involved in acne breakouts. Vinegar also breaks down sebum and helps balance the pH of the skin, improving its overall health and making it less hospitable to bacteria.

    Step 1

Bathe daily using warm water and mild soap. Exfoliate your back using a long-handled exfoliation brush and a fine-grained product. Exfoliating two to three times per week is generally sufficient to prevent clogged pores due to dead skin cells.

    Step 2

Rinse your back with a solution of four parts water to one part apple cider vinegar to remove any remaining skin oil and soap residue. Do this just before exiting the shower. Do not rinse off. Any vinegar smell with fade as your skin dries. Add more or less water to the solution depending on how your skin reacts to the solution.

    Step 3

Pat your skin dry using a clean towel. Do not rub your skin, as this can cause irritation and worsen back acne. Allow your back to air dry whenever possible.

    Step 4

Use a cotton ball to apply full-strength apple cider vinegar directly to blemishes. You may need someone to help you reach the top or center of your back. Allow your skin to air dry. Dilute or discontinue the vinegar if you notice a worsening of your acne, skin irritation or other problems.

    Step 5

Apply any acne medications as directed by your dermatologist before dressing.
