What Is the Size of a Half-Court Basketball Court?

Basketball is a popular recreational and competitive sport. In an official basketball game, ten players are on the court at once, five on each team. But if you want to play with just a handful of people, it is easier to cut the court in half and only play on one end.

Full-Court Dimensions

The dimensions of a full court depend on the level of play. Youth courts are 74 feet long by 42 feet wide and high school courts are 84 feet long by 50 feet wide. College and professional NBA courts are 94 feet long and 50 feet wide. A court used for international competitions, which is governed by the International Basketball Federation, is a minimum of 32,000 mm, or 104.9 feet long, and 19,000 mm or 62.3 feet long.

Half-Court Dimensions

Half-courts cut the length of a full basketball court in half, not the width. The width remains the same from the original court. A youth half court is 37 feet by 42 feet and a high school half court is 42 feet by 50 feet. Half court games played on a college or professional court are 47 feet by 50 feet and games played on an international court are 52 feet by 31 feet.

A half-size basketball court includes one hoop, one free throw line and one three-point arc. The free-throw line is 15 feet from the front plane of the backboard. The three-point arc is 19.75 feet from the middle of the basket for high school and women's college courts. On men's college courts, the three-point line is 20.75 feet from the middle of the basket. The professional three-point line is the farthest, being 23.75 feet from the basket.

Playgrounds

Playground basketball courts do not necessarily follow the specifications of official courts. An outdoor court may follow the specifications of an official court, but it may be smaller due to space limitations. This will change the dimensions of the half-court, although it is still the length of the full court cut in half. The free-throw line is 15 feet from the backboard, but the three-point line can vary depending on the size of the court.
