    How to Remove Scalp Warts

Warts are a common skin problem, and are usually caused by HPV, the human papilloma virus. Warts are not cancerous and can show up as a single raised bump or in clusters. Warts occur when the HPV virus finds its way into your body via a scratch or cut and makes cells multiply quickly. Warts can spread to other areas of the body and may end up virtually anywhere, including hands, feet, genitals, elbows, forearms, face and even your scalp. Warts on the scalp are typically the filiform type of wart, characterized by pointy, finger-like bumps. Attempts to remove scalp warts can range from surgery to home remedies.

    Step 1

Visit your doctor to obtain a diagnosis and confirm that the bump on your scalp is a wart.

    Step 2

Schedule a curettage treatment with your doctor to have the wart scraped or cut out, says the University of Michigan Health System. The doctor will use a scalpel or spoon-like cutting tool to scoop the wart out of the skin. The area may or may not be frozen, depending on how deeply embedded the scalp wart is.

    Step 3

Agree to have electrosurgery to remove your scalp wart. Electrosurgery uses a needle that sends an electrical charge through the wart, burning off the tissue, according to the University of Michigan Health System. The area around the wart must be frozen with a painful injection first. Electrosurgery is not effective on groups of warts.

    Step 4

Cut a clove of garlic, then place it over the wart and cover it with a bandage or wrapping, says the Health Guidance website. Leave it overnight, then remove the dressing in the morning. Leave any blisters that have formed to be reabsorbed. Continue the same procedure each night and the wart may be gone within two weeks. Home remedies are not medically proven and may not show optimum results.

    Step 5

Dip a cloth into apple cider vinegar and cover the wart with the cloth. Wrap or bandage the area and leave it on overnight, removing it in the morning. Continue for one week to see results, says Health Guidance. Home remedies are not medically proven and may not show optimum results.

    Warning

Cryotherapy or freezing with liquid nitrogen is not an option for scalp warts.
