How to Make a Microdermabrasion Scrub

Microdermabrasion is a clinical procedure that uses crystals to remove the top layer of skin. The exfoliating procedure removes dead skin layers, leaving skin soft and glowing. Homemade varieties can be used once a week and cost less than expensive spa treatments. Ingredients used are commonly found in the kitchen. A scrub can be created in about 15 minutes.

    Step 1

Combine one cup of sugar, half a cup extra virgin olive oil and one teaspoon of lemon juice into a small bowl. Stir with a wooden spoon until all of the ingredients are mixed thoroughly.

    Step 2

Add six drops of essential oils, such as lavender or citrus. Add one tablespoon of baking soda, which will soften the skin.

    Step 3

Mix well until all lumps are gone. The mixture should be one color. Place the ingredients into a clean, dry jar with a lid. Store it in a low-humidity environment. The scrub should last for six months.

    Step 4

Drop 2 to 3 teaspoons of the mixture into the palm of your hand with a small spoon. Add three to four droplets of water and mix together to create a paste. Using your fingertips or a damp washcloth, apply the paste to your wet face in a circular motion. Lightly rub into face, but do not overscrub.
