Calories in Sweet Chili Sauce
Sweet chili sauce is a standard dip for Asian appetizers such as spring rolls and wontons, but the sugar content makes this condiment relatively high in calories. Calories from sugar are considered empty because they provide no vitamins, minerals or other nutrients. They do, however, provide energy your body will store as fat if you exceed your daily calorie needs. Limit your intake of sweet chili sauce to help prevent weight gain.

One recipe for sweet chili sauce from "Epicurious" contains about 90 calories per 1-ounce serving. A major bottled brand has a similar profile at 40 calories per tablespoon, which equals about 80 calories per ounce. Shopping around may help, as one grocery-store brand contains just 45 calories per ounce. However, virtually all of the calories from sweet chili sauce come from sugar. The American Heart Association recommends limiting added sugars to no more than 100 calories per day for women, and no more than 150 calories per day for men.
