How Many Calories in Mentos Candy?

Mentos candy originated in 1932 in the Netherlands. Whether the chew or gum variety, it has a crunchy outer layer and a chewy center. While the chews are meant to be swallowed like candy, you can the chew the gum to your heart's content.

Perfect Ten

There are 10 calories in one regular Mentos chew -- or dragee, as it's referred to in Europe. It also packs 3 g of carbohydrates and 2 g of sugar. A pack of 12 will leave you with about the same amount of calories as about nine pieces of Starburst.

Ingredients

The Mentos company website says its product originally started as an idea for a peppermint-flavored caramel candy, but there is no caramel in its ingredients. Mentos is made of sugar, wheat glucose syrup, hydrogenated coconut oil, rice starch, gum arabic, sucrose esters of fatty acids, gellan gum, natural flavors and colors.

Sugar-Free

Mentos' sugar-free gum product was introduced in 2008 and comes in a compact container. One piece of gum carries 3 to 5 calories, depending on the flavor. Its flavors include mixed berries, cinnamon and watermelon. The Pure Fresh line of gum comes in fresh mint and wintergreen flavors.
