    Calories in a Flour Tortilla

While tortillas are a staple of Latin cuisine, people in the United States commonly use them as a bread alternative such as for making turkey wraps. Commercially produced tortillas are typically made using flour and vegetable shortening such as soybean oil. The number of calories a tortilla has depends on the type of flour it uses and on the size of the tortilla.

In northern Mexico and in much of the United States, tortillas are often made with all-purpose flour. A 49-gram, 7- or 8-inch flour tortilla typically contains 147 calories, 25 grams of carbohydrate and 1 gram of fiber. Tortillas made with whole-wheat flour provide slightly fewer calories. A 41-gram, 7- or 8-inch whole-wheat flour tortilla contains about 130 calories, 19 grams of carbohydrate and 4 grams of fiber. Corn tortillas made with corn flour have a firmer, chewier texture than those made from all-purpose or wheat flour. A 24-gram corn tortilla has about 52 calories, 11 grams of carbohydrate and 1.5 grams of fiber.
