How to Make a White Box Cake Into Chocolate Cake
When you are craving a rich piece of chocolate cake, the box of white cake mix in your cupboard just doesn't cut it. Luckily, with the addition of a few ingredients you may have in your pantry, you can turn that box of cake mix into a sweet chocolate dessert in no time.
Step 1
Preheat the oven as directed on the package. Pour the contents of your white cake mix into a mixing bowl. Add 1/4 to 1/2 cups of unsweetened cocoa powder to the dry cake mix. The more you add, the richer the chocolate flavor. Add a couple tablespoons of sugar if a sweeter chocolate flavor is desired. Mix the dry ingredients until well combined.
Step 2
Add the other ingredients as directed by the cake mix box. Mix the ingredients as directed. If the batter appears too thick due to the addition of the cocoa, add a few teaspoons of water until the batter reaches the desired consistency.
Step 3
Pour the cake batter into a cake pan and bake as directed. Check the cake for doneness a few minutes before the recommended cooking time. Insert a toothpick into the center of the cake and, if the toothpick comes out clean, the cake is done.
