Does Walking Get Rid of Cellulite?
Getting rid of cellulite completely is a tall order because cellulite is related to genetics and excess fat. Women have three layers of fat on their buttocks, thighs and knees. And along with extra fat -- compared to men -- women have a connective-tissue network with large spaces that allow fat cells to bulge through, creating a dimpled effect. A weight-reduction plan that includes aerobic exercise, such as walking, can help you reduce the appearance of cellulite.

While you cannot get rid of cellulite entirely, you can make it less noticeable by losing weight and toning up your muscles. Make walking aerobic by getting your heart rate up to 70 percent to 80 percent of your maximum heart rate -- your age subtracted from 220. Walk for at least 20 minutes, three times a week, for minimal benefits. Increase the frequency or duration of walking or use walking as part of interval training -- with walking sandwiched with brief periods of all-out sprints -- for faster results.
Cellulite-Reducing Workout
The more weight you lose, the less fat you have to make those cellulite dimples. Use a combination of cardio and strength training for greater weight loss than a program that includes only cardio, advises the American Council on Exercise. To maximize the benefits of walking for cardio, include five exercises to work your lower-body muscle groups and five exercises to work your upper body, using exercise equipment or free weights. Consult your doctor before you begin a new exercise program.
