How Many Calories Are Burned Riding a Bike Seven Miles?

Once you have invested in the bike, cycling can be a relatively cheap, highly effective method for burning calories over a short space of time. The number of calories you burn depends on your weight, the distance you travel and the speed you ride the bike.

    Slower-Speed Cycling

If you weigh 155 lbs. and travel 12 miles every 60 minutes, you'll burn 596 calories. Divide this figure by 12 to calculate the calories per mile rate. This equates to 50 calories per mile or 350 calories every 7 miles. If you weigh 185 lbs. and cycle at the same speed you'll burn 59 calories per mile or 414 calories every 7 miles.

    Moderate-Speed Cycling

If you weigh 155 lbs. and cycle at 14 mph you'll burn 744 calories every hour, which is about 53 calories per mile or 371 calories every 7 miles. If you weigh 185 lbs. you'll burn 63 calories every mile or 444 every 7 miles.

    Higher-Speed Cycling

If you weigh 155 lbs. and cycle 16 miles every hour, you'll burn 892 calories every hour. This equates to 56 calories per mile or 390 calories on a 7 mile bike ride. If you weigh 185 lbs. and travel at the same speed, you'll burn 67 calories per mile or 466 calories every 7 miles.
